（アメリカ合州国）アンナ・バルツァーさん　ハローキティ・ストア出店中止を求める要請書

以下の文章は、アメリカでパレスチナ連帯運動に取り組んでおられ、2010年11月には日本にも来日されたアンナ・バルツァーさんからサンリオ宛に送られた要請書です。

イスラエル／パレスチナにおけるすべての人々に自由と平等が保障されるべきだと信じる一人のユダヤ系アメリカ人として、私は、「ハローキティ・ストア」をイスラエルにつくらないよう、貴社に要請します。

イスラエルは、多くの手段を通じてパレスチナの人々の基本的人権を侵害しています。

  • 西岸地区のパレスチナ人は、人種隔離された道路や法システム、日々の暴力や嫌がらせによって特徴づけられる残虐な軍事占領の下で生活しています。非暴力的な民衆抵抗の指導者を含め、何千人ものパレスチナ人の人権活動家が裁判もないまま投獄されています。イスラエルの違法な入植地や「壁」によって、土地は奪われ、パレスチナの農民や家族達は、学校や職場、病院に行くことができず、生活必需品を得ることもできずにいます。西岸地区は、いくつもの「バンツースタン」に分断されてしまっています。
  • ガザ地区のパレスチナ人は、イスラエルによる封鎖の下で生活しています。国連パレスチナ難民救済機関のスポークスマンであるクリス・ガンネスによると、ガザの封鎖は、「何十万人もの、本来生産的であるはずの人々を絶対的な貧困に追いやり、絶望的な生活に陥れている」のです。国際法に違反するかたちで、イスラエルは、ガザの市民、女性や子供達に対し、白リン弾やアメリカ製の兵器を系統的に使用しています。そして、何千人もの人々を殺害し、学校や病院、水道などの基本的インフラを破壊しています。
  • 何百万人ものパレスチナ人のムスリム、そしてクリスチャンは、１９４８年のイスラエル建国の際に彼らの家族が故郷から避難、あるいは追放されて以来、難民生活を強いられています。イスラエルは、彼らがただユダヤ人でなはいというだけの理由で、これらの難民たちが、自分の家や土地に帰還するという、国際的に認められた権利を否定し続けています。


イスラエルへの出店は、イスラエルのアパルトヘイト政策を正当なものとする印象を与えるものです。

アパルトヘイト時代の南アフリカの場合と同じように、世界中の個人や組織が、イスラエルに対して、アパルトヘイト国家と「通常のビジネス」を行うことはできないということを示すことは、決定的に重要なことです。

Dear Shintaro Tsuji and Sanrio Company, Ltd.,

As a Jewish American who believes in freedom and equal rights for all people of Israel/Palestine, I urge you not to open a Helly Kitty store in Israel. Israel is violating the fundamental human rights of the Palestinian people in a myriad of ways:

  • Palestinians in the West Bank live under a brutal military occupation characterized by segregated roads and legal systems, daily violence, and humiliation. Thousands of Palestinian human rights activists, including leaders of the nonviolent popular struggle, have been imprisoned, many without charge or trial. Israel’s illegal settlements and Wall confiscate land and separate Palestinian farmers and families from their schools, jobs, hospitals, and livelihoods, dividing the West Bank into Bantustans.
  • Palestinians in the Gaza Strip live under an Israeli blockade that “deliberately impoverishes … and condemns hundreds of thousands of potentially productive people to a life of destitution,” according to Chris Gunness, spokesperson for UN Relief and Works Agency. Contrary to international law, Israel has systematically employed white phosphorous and U.S. weapons against civilian men, women, and children in Gaza, killing thousands and destroying basic infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and water sources.
  • As non-Jewish citizens, Palestinians inside Israel live under an apartheid system that denies them equal rights to their Jewish counterparts. Israel’s apartheid laws restrict land ownership, housing, employment, and marriage, in many ways resembling Jim Crow.
  • Millions of Palestinian Muslims and Christians live in exile since their families fled or were expelled in 1948 during Israel’s creation. Israel has denied these refugees their internationally-recognized right to return to their homes and lands, simply because they are not Jewish.

Opening a store in Israel would lend an air of legitimacy to Israel's apartheid policies.

As was the case with Apartheid South Africa, it's critical that individuals and organizations around the world show Israel that there can be NO "business as usual" with an apartheid state.
